Little is known of the origin and evolution of the technique of Mexican blown glass, its vestiges are found in the early decades of the Colony when a Spanish glassmaker settled in Puebla where pieces with a very fine manufacture were recovered, the main producers of that time were Mexico, Puebla and Jalisco with pieces for the people with decorations and ancient techniques. Currently, in Jalisco the technique of blown glass has taken root in the cities of Tonala and Tlaquepaque and has evolved with a symbiosis of Mexican and European styles with a great artistic sense that has been recognized worldwide. The technique of blown glass as an artisan creation was inherited by the Spaniards, the diverse techniques resulted in an artisan practice that represents a cultural fusion. Tonalá, Jalisco is the place where this technique was most creatively and artistically developed. It is currently the most important artisan production center and has become the capital of blown glass in Mexico.
